Imitation jewellery in Gujarat beyond Rajkot: Ahmedabad and Surat

What Ahmedabad and Surat make compared with Rajkot, and when it is worth looking at Gujarat imitation jewellery manufacturers outside the main cluster.

· 3 min read · Creston & Co

Gujarat imitation jewellery manufacturers are concentrated in Rajkot, but Ahmedabad and Surat also have jewellery trades, and they differ in what they do best. Ahmedabad imitation jewellery wholesale is largely a trading and distribution business, while Surat is better known for diamonds and, in imitation jewellery, for stone-based and fashion work.

The right city depends on your range. Rajkot remains the first stop for most categories, as explained in why Rajkot is a hub for imitation jewellery.

What does Ahmedabad offer?

Ahmedabad is Gujarat's biggest commercial city and a distribution centre. Many wholesalers stock mixed ranges from makers across the state and beyond. That is useful if you want ready stock, quick dispatch and many styles under one roof.

The trade-off is that wholesalers cannot easily change a design. For your own designs or private label, you still need the maker behind the stock, which is often in Rajkot.

What does Surat offer?

Surat is globally associated with diamond cutting and polishing, and it also has a fashion trade, with strength in textiles. In imitation jewellery, local units work with cubic zirconia, synthetic stones and lightweight fashion pieces, partly because stone skills are strong there.

If your range is stone-led, such as American diamond or CZ studs, Surat is worth including on your shortlist. See American diamond and CZ makers.

How do they compare with Rajkot?

As a rule of thumb, based on how the trade is organised:

  • Rajkot has the deepest base of casting, plating and finishing workshops, so it suits custom and private-label work.
  • Ahmedabad suits buyers who want to see many styles quickly and buy from stock.
  • Surat suits stone-led and certain fashion ranges, and buyers who already have diamond or textile contacts there.

How to decide where to look

Start with your product, not the city. Decide whether you need custom design, stock or a stone-led range, then shortlist two or three makers wherever they are. The checks do not change: confirm the real producer, test samples and see the workshop.

Why Gujarat as a whole is a good base for sourcing is covered in why source from Gujarat. Combining makers from more than one city in a single shipment is possible, and consolidation across several suppliers explains how.

Is it worth combining cities?

Combining makers from several cities can widen your range, but each additional supplier adds sampling, testing and logistics work. It is usually better to establish one or two reliable makers first, then add others for specific products.

If you do combine, agree one consolidation point and one set of packing rules, so that cartons from different makers arrive in matching condition. Keep the same test and inspection standard for every supplier. A single weak link can delay a whole container, so keep a record of which maker produced which cartons.

Whatever the city, ask for the workshop address and check it matches the company on the invoice. City names on a business card are easy to print and prove nothing.
