Buying from Maharaja Dehydration: what to check and how we help

Maharaja Dehydration says it runs three plants in Mahuva making onion and garlic. Here is what to verify before ordering, and how an independent agent can help.

According to its website, Maharaja Dehydration Pvt Ltd is a manufacturer and supplier of dehydrated onion and garlic based on National Highway 8E at Umaniyavadar, near Mahuva in Gujarat. It describes itself as the "oldest company in dehydration industry", a claim we have not checked.

Creston & Co is not affiliated with Maharaja Dehydration. This page is a buyer's guide based on public information.

What Maharaja Dehydration says it makes

Its company website lists dehydrated white, red and pink onion, dehydrated garlic, and toasted and fried onion. The cuts it names are slices, kibbled (15 to 35 mm), large chopped, chopped, minced, granules and powder.

On scale, the site states three production facilities, output of around 35 MT a day and exports of about 6,000 tons of onion and garlic products a year. It says it has served European, American, Russian and Asian markets since 2003 and has clients in more than 20 countries, and it mentions over 25 years of experience. A founding year is not stated as such.

On standards, the site says its facilities follow "B.R.C & Sedex norms" and that its in-house laboratory is designed to NABL standards. A PotatoPro company listing also mentions Halal and Kosher. The certificate images on the site do not carry readable details, so the exact scope and grade are not stated in text.

What to verify before you order

A multi-plant company with a broad product list is a good fit for mixed containers, but it also means your lot could come from any one of three sites. The checks below follow from what the company says about itself.

  • Ask for the BRCGS certificate number, then look it up in the BRCGS directory. Confirm the grade, the expiry date and which of the three plants the certificate covers. "Follows BRC norms" and "holds a current BRCGS certificate for this site" are different statements.
  • Ask which plant will produce your lot, and confirm that plant's address on its FSSAI licence.
  • If you need Sedex, ask for the SMETA audit reference and site number so you can view it through Sedex.
  • Ask for the Halal and Kosher certificates and check the issuing body is one your customers accept.
  • An in-house lab designed to NABL standards is useful for process control, but it is not the same as an accredited lab. For release, have samples tested at an independent NABL-accredited laboratory for microbiology, pesticide residues and ethylene oxide.
  • If you ship to the United States, ask for the US FDA food facility registration number for the producing plant.
  • For toasted and fried onion, ask separately for oil type and specifications, as these products behave differently from plain dehydrated cuts.

How we help if you want to buy from Maharaja Dehydration

We can approach Maharaja Dehydration on your behalf, visit and audit the plant that will make your order, collect sealed samples, have them tested at an NABL-accredited lab and check its certificates against the official registers. We then negotiate terms, supervise loading and check the export documents before the goods sail, all for one written fee agreed in advance. You buy directly from the company.

If it turns out not to be the right fit for your specification or volume, we compare it with other plants in the Mahuva cluster. See our pages on dehydrated onion and dehydrated garlic, the list of other manufacturers, and our Mahuva buyer's guide.
