Buying from Joshi Foods and Spices: what to check and how we help

Joshi Foods and Spices says it is a Mahuva manufacturer of onion, garlic and seed spices with an FSSC 22000 facility. It appears to be a young company, so check its track record.

· 3 min read · Creston & Co

According to its website, Joshi Foods and Spices is a manufacturer and exporter based in Mahuva, Gujarat, selling dehydrated onion and garlic alongside spice powders and seeds. A B2B listing gives 2024 as its start year; the website itself does not state one.

Creston & Co is not affiliated with Joshi Foods and Spices. This page is a buyer's guide based on public information.

What Joshi Foods and Spices says it makes

Its company website lists white onion flakes (kibbled), onion powder, minced and chopped onion, dehydrated garlic flakes and garlic powder, which it describes as 80 to 120 mesh. Its FAQ also mentions fried onion. Beyond onion and garlic, it lists red chilli and turmeric powder, dehydrated ginger powder, and fenugreek, sesame and nigella seeds.

It states that it runs an FSSC 22000 production facility with Halal and Kosher certification for selected products, holds an FSSAI licence and follows HACCP based quality systems, and that certificates of analysis are available. It names its export markets as the USA, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Bangladesh, Nepal, Ukraine and the Baltic states. Street address, capacity and staff numbers are not stated.

What to verify before you order

A newer company can be a good supplier, but it has less public history to judge, so the checks lean on documents and a first lot.

  • Ask for the FSSC 22000 certificate and find it in the FSSC public register. Check the certified site address and whether the scope covers dehydration, or only grinding and packing.
  • The website gives no street address. Ask for the plant address and confirm it on the FSSAI licence.
  • The product list covers onion, garlic, ginger, chilli, turmeric and seeds. Its site says it is a manufacturer; ask which of these it dries or grinds itself and which it buys from other units, and which plant produces your lot.
  • Halal and Kosher apply to selected products only, per the site. Ask for the certificates and the product list each one covers.
  • For garlic powder at 80 to 120 mesh, ask for the sieve analysis and moisture limit, and test a sealed sample.
  • Ask for references or shipping records from one of the export markets it names, ideally your own.
  • For the US, confirm the FDA food facility registration before you plan FSVP.

How we help if you want to buy from Joshi Foods and Spices

We can contact Joshi Foods and Spices on your behalf, visit the plant to see what is processed on site, and check the FSSC 22000, Halal and Kosher certificates against their sources. We collect sealed samples for testing at an NABL-accredited lab, negotiate terms suited to a first order with a young supplier, supervise loading and check the documents, for one written fee. You buy directly from the company.

If it is not the right fit, we compare it with longer established plants in the cluster for dehydrated garlic or onion. See other manufacturers and our guide to telling a trader from a processor.
