Buying from Honest Food Export: what to check and how we help

Honest Food Export says it makes dehydrated onion and garlic at Neswad, Mahuva, and holds ISO 22000 and BRCGS. Here is what to check first and how we can help.

According to its website, Honest Food Export is a manufacturer and exporter of dehydrated onion, dehydrated garlic and spices, with its plant at Neswad in Mahuva taluka.

Creston & Co is not affiliated with Honest Food Export. This page is a buyer's guide based on public information.

What Honest Food Export says it makes

Its company website lists dehydrated white and red (pink) onion, dehydrated garlic, fried onion, toasted onion, and a range of Indian spices and herbs. It says raw materials are bought from market vendors after quality checks, and that it offers standard and customised packing.

The site gives two different starting points. The home page carries the heading "Since 2004". The about page sets out a timeline: company established in 2016 and plant construction begun, production started in 2018 with ISO 22000 and BRCGS certification and first exports, Star Export House status from the Government of India in 2020, and spice exports from 2022.

The credentials section shows certificate images without labels, and the site does not state a capacity or name its export markets.

What to verify before you order

The timeline gives you specific things to check against public records:

  • Ask for the current BRCGS certificate and confirm in the BRCGS directory that the Neswad site is listed, with its grade, scope and expiry. Ask for the ISO 22000 certificate and check the certification body's accreditation.
  • Ask about the 2004 and 2016 dates. One may refer to the promoters' earlier trading business and the other to the plant company, but it is better to hear it from the company and see the incorporation or registration date.
  • Star Export House status is granted by DGFT. Ask for the certificate and check it against the company's IEC details.
  • The site says raw onion and garlic come from market vendors. Ask how lots are graded on arrival and how variety and pungency are kept consistent across a season.
  • Confirm the FSSAI licence covers the Neswad address, and get the US FDA facility registration number if you ship to the US.
  • If you buy spices in the same container, check each product line separately for residues and contaminants, as spice testing needs differ from onion.
