Buying from Ali Foods: what to check and how we help

Ali Foods, near Mahuva, says it runs a BRC-certified onion and garlic plant linked to the promoters of Kirti Foods. Here is what to confirm before you buy.

· 3 min read · Creston & Co

According to its website, Ali Foods is a 100% export dehydrated onion and garlic plant at Village Vadli on the Mahuva to Bhavnagar road in Gujarat, and its promoters are linked to Kirti Foods Pvt Ltd, which it says was incorporated in 1993. Its Nutrada listing says Ali Foods itself started in March 2007.

Creston & Co is not affiliated with Ali Foods. This page is a buyer's guide based on public information.

What Ali Foods says it makes

The company website and its Nutrada listing together describe the following:

  • Onion: kibbled, chopped, minced, granules and powder, in white, red and pink, plus fried onion and toasted kibbled onion.
  • Garlic: cloves, minced, granules and powder.
  • Capacity: one plant with two dryers and 18 tonnes a day, while another passage on the website says production has risen to 30 MT a day.
  • Quality equipment: it states it has an in-house laboratory, metal detectors, a moisture detection system, a new Sortex machine and magnet sorting.
  • Certifications: the website names BRC, FSSAI, the Spices Board and APEDA, and says an SGS quality certificate is available on request. Nutrada adds FDA.
  • Trade fairs: it lists Anuga 2019, Anuga 2021 and Fi Brazil 2019. Staff of 51 to 200 per Nutrada. Export countries are not stated.

What to verify before you order

  • Capacity is given as 18 and as 30 tonnes a day. Ask for the current figure and how much is free for new orders in your shipment month.
  • Ask for the BRCGS certificate number and grade, then check it in the BRCGS directory. Confirm that the certified site is the Vadli plant.
  • FDA appears on Nutrada but not on the website. For the US, ask for the food facility registration number.
  • Because of the Kirti Foods link, ask which legal entity will sign the contract, which plant produces your lot, and whether the FSSAI licence address matches it.
  • The website mentions fumigation in storage. Ask which fumigant is used. Ethylene oxide is not permitted in EU food, so ask for an ETO and 2-chloroethanol result on your lot if you sell there.
  • An in-house lab is useful, but your release decision should rest on an independent test of a sealed sample.

How we help if you want to buy from Ali Foods

We can approach Ali Foods for you, visit and audit the Vadli plant, and see its dryers, sorting and lab. We draw sealed samples, test them at an NABL-accredited lab to your specification for dehydrated onion or dehydrated garlic, check every certificate, negotiate terms, supervise loading and check the documents, for one written fee. You buy directly from the company.

For the EU risk, see why ETO treatment leads to EU rejections. If Ali Foods does not suit you, we compare it with other manufacturers around Mahuva, and our Mahuva buyer's guide explains how a plant visit runs.
