The psyllium husk price per kg and the isabgol price today in Unjha depend first on the seed crop, then on the purity and mesh you ask for. The seed is a small, weather-sensitive crop, and the husk is only a fraction of its weight, so the price can move a long way between seasons. This page gives no price, because any number printed here would be wrong within weeks.
What follows explains the drivers, so you can read a quote and ask the right questions.
Why does the seed crop dominate?
Psyllium is grown in a small area of north Gujarat and Rajasthan, and the crop is sensitive to rain and cold at flowering. A poor crop tightens supply across the world, because India is the main source. Why psyllium prices swing between years explains the pattern.
The harvest comes in spring, and the market watches early estimates closely. How the psyllium harvest affects price covers the timing.
How do purity and mesh change a quote?
Husk is sold by purity, from lower grades up to 99%, and powder by mesh. Higher purity needs more processing and loses more material, so it costs more per kilogram. Fine powder needs extra grinding and screening.
Compare offers only at the same purity, mesh, swell volume and moisture. What 99% purity and 40 mesh mean explains each figure.
What else sits inside a quote?
Beyond seed cost, grade and mesh, a quote carries several costs worth asking about:
- Processing loss, since only a small share of seed weight becomes husk.
- Testing, such as swell volume, heavy metals, pesticide residues and microbiology.
- Any certification, such as organic, kosher or halal, which adds audit and segregation cost.
- Packing, such as bag, liner and carton, plus palletising and loading.
- The supplier's own margin and the payment terms you choose.
How do you get a firm quote?
Send the same specification to each plant and ask for the offer in writing with its validity period. Be wary of a rate that is held for a few hours only. Ask whether the husk is from the current crop or older stock, and ask for the test report on the lot. Psyllium husk from India: a sourcing guide is a good starting point, and Unjha psyllium manufacturers: what to check helps with the plant.
What should you do before you order?
Test a sample of the lot you would receive, not the plant's reference sample. Check purity, swell volume and moisture, and compare them with the sheet. If you plan repeat orders, ask about contract volumes spread across the year, because buying only at the peak of the market is a risk you do not need to carry.
Ask also how long the plant has held the stock. Husk keeps well when dry, but old stock can lose colour and pick up moisture if it was stored badly.
