Yes. Many Rajkot and Ahmedabad pump makers build pumps under the buyer's brand, with your name on the nameplate, the casing, the manual and the box. Private label is a normal part of the trade.
The bigger question is what changes legally and technically when the pump carries your brand. In many markets, putting your name on a product makes you responsible for it as if you made it.
What can be branded
- The nameplate or rating plate, with your brand, model codes and contact details.
- Casting marks on the pump or motor body, which need a pattern change and take longer.
- Paint colour, labels and stickers on the pump, motor and control panel.
- Instruction manuals, warranty cards and test certificates printed under your name.
- Cartons, crates and inner packing printed with your brand and barcodes.
Your legal position
In the EU, a business that places a product on the market under its own name or trademark is generally treated as the manufacturer. That means the CE declaration, technical file and product liability can sit with you. Similar rules exist in other markets.
So private label is not just a sticker. You need the maker's test reports, technical documents and declarations transferred or reissued for your models. Confirm your duties with your compliance adviser or regulator. Our article on CE requirements for Indian pumps sets out the documents.
Protect your brand
Register your trademark in your market and, if you can, in India. Your contract should say that the maker may not sell pumps with your brand to anyone else, and that your artwork and printing plates are yours.
Agree what happens to leftover branded stock if you stop ordering. Without that clause, branded pumps can end up sold in your market by someone else.
Keep your own model codes separate from the maker's codes, and keep a cross-reference table. If you ever change maker, your customers keep ordering the same model codes and your spares lists still work.
Keep control of what is inside
Your brand carries your reputation, so fix the internals in writing. Specify winding material, stage material, seal type, cable and test grade. Ask for the same design to be used every time, with written approval needed for any change.
Ask for a golden sample of each approved model, sealed and signed by both sides. It gives you a physical reference when a later batch looks or performs differently.
Quality drift is the main risk once orders settle into a routine. The founding article on why quality drops after the first container explains why, and how to stop it. Minimum quantities for branding are covered in MOQ for private-label pumps.
