PP woven bags from India: a buying guide

How to brief and choose a PP woven bag maker in India: size, fabric weight, lamination, printing and the checks that matter before you order.

· 3 min read · Creston & Co

To buy PP woven bags from India, give the maker the bag size, the fabric weight, the lamination and the print, and choose a plant that makes its own tape and fabric. A PP woven sack manufacturer that buys fabric in will not control strength or colour as well.

PP woven bags carry grain, fertiliser, cement, sugar, chemicals and minerals. Gujarat has many bag makers, so use the same checks you would for any plant. Standard sizes of PP woven sacks show what is usual.

What goes into a PP woven bag specification?

Give these details so quotes can be compared.

  • Bag size, length by width, and the filled weight, such as 25 kg or 50 kg.
  • Fabric weight in GSM and the tape denier, plus mesh count.
  • Laminated or unlaminated, and whether an inner liner is needed.
  • Colour, UV treatment and any anti-slip finish.
  • Printing: number of colours, artwork and position.
  • Stitching or sealing at the mouth and bottom.

How do you choose a maker?

Choose a plant that extrudes tape, weaves, laminates and prints in house, or that can show a stable supplier for each stage. Ask for the recent order history, the resin source and the quality checks on each roll. Our guide to telling a trader from a manufacturer applies, because some bag sellers are traders.

Request samples from the current line, and test them for weight, tensile strength and load. Drop test a filled bag for seam strength. If your product is food, ask about food-contact suitability and the certificate held by the plant.

What about minimums and printing?

Plants set a minimum per size and per print, because a printing cylinder or plate has to be made. A plain bag in stock colour has a lower minimum than a custom printed one. See MOQ for FIBC and PP woven bags for what is typical.

Printing sits on the surface and can rub off, so agree an adhesion test. Check the artwork for barcodes and hazard marks that your market requires.

What usually goes wrong?

The common faults are weight shortfall, weak seams, uneven weave and print smudging. Common complaints about PP bags and FIBC explains how to prevent each. Inspect a random sample of cartons or bales before the container is sealed, and compare the weight and size with your specification.

Prices follow resin cost, bag weight and print. We do not publish figures, and quotes are valid for a short time.

How are PP woven bags packed and shipped?

Bags are normally pressed into bales of a fixed count, wrapped and strapped. Agree the bale count, the bale weight and the container loading plan. A 40 ft container holds a large number of empty bags, so the limit is usually weight or volume, not floor space.

Keep bales dry and out of the sun. Stack them so the printed side is not rubbed. Ask the plant to photograph the loading and send the container number and seal number, so that you can check them on arrival. Packing and shipping FIBC and PP bags from India covers this in more detail.
