India vs Sudan, Argentina, Pakistan and Brazil: origin compared

How Indian sesame, peanuts, guar gum and castor compare with Sudan, Argentina, Pakistan and Brazil, and why Vietnam sets the pepper comparison.

· 3 min read · Creston & Co

Each of these comparisons has a different answer, because each origin wins on something different. India vs Sudan for sesame is mostly a question of cleaning and food-safety control. India vs Argentina for peanuts is a question of crop type and season. India vs Pakistan for guar gum is a question of processing quality, and India vs Brazil for castor is a question of oil quality. Indian vs Vietnamese pepper is a question of scale against grade.

The sections below take each pair in turn. They describe what to test, not which country to prefer.

India vs Sudan sesame

Sudan is a very large sesame producer, and much of its crop goes to the same buyers as Indian seed. The practical differences sit in processing. Indian exporters in Gujarat clean, hull and sort sesame to stated purities, and the range of types is described in which sesame types India exports.

When you compare, ask both suppliers for the same four things: purity after cleaning, oil content, free fatty acids and a Salmonella result. Sesame has had repeated food-safety alerts in the EU, including for ethylene oxide residues, so ask every supplier how the seed is sterilised and what the residue test shows.

India vs Argentina peanuts

Argentina is a major exporter of blanched and processed peanuts, grown in a different season from the Indian crop. Indian exports are led by Gujarat groundnut, with the main types covered in groundnut varieties Gujarat exports.

Aflatoxin is the deciding test in every origin. The EU sets strict limits for peanuts, so confirm the current rule in Regulation (EU) 2023/915 or with your broker. Ask for an aflatoxin result per lot and judge the supplier on its sorting, not on the country name.

India vs Pakistan guar gum

Both countries grow guar, and both process it into split and powder. The difference lies in the consistency of the powder: viscosity, particle size, hydration time and protein. A direct comparison is set out in how to compare guar gum from India and Pakistan.

Run both through the same viscosity method at the same concentration and temperature, or the numbers will not be comparable. Also check each supplier's end-use certificates if you buy food or drilling grade.

India vs Brazil castor

India dominates castor seed and oil, and Brazil is a smaller grower. What matters for oil is free fatty acid, colour, moisture and the grade named in the contract. Grades such as first special grade and the lower commercial grade are not interchangeable, so write the grade and the test method into the order.

Castor meal from either origin contains a toxin and has to be handled and labelled accordingly. Do not treat it as a feed ingredient. For the wider logic of comparing Indian meals with South American ones, see Indian oilmeals vs South American soybean meal.

Indian vs Vietnamese pepper

Vietnam is the world's largest black pepper producer, and its pepper is sold in large, steady volumes. Indian pepper, grown mainly in Kerala and Karnataka, is bought for specific grades and a distinct aroma. The deciding factors are bulk density, piperine, moisture, sterilisation status and Salmonella results.

Because both origins are sold in several grades, compare grade to grade. A cheaper-looking offer is often a different grade, not a better deal.

Next step

If you buy from more than one origin, we can source Indian samples from audited manufacturers and have them tested against your current supplier. Cost differences come from crop size, processing, freight and currency, and only a real quote shows them. Book a free sourcing review and tell us which product you want to compare.
