To compare quotes from Rajkot jewellery makers fairly, send each one the same written specification and ask them to quote in the same format. The lowest price often hides a lighter piece, thinner plating, cheaper stones or a different packing standard.
Once the specification is fixed, the real comparison is between price, lead time, MOQ, payment terms and how much you trust the maker to deliver what the sample shows.
Send one request to everyone
- The same photos or reference samples for each design.
- Base metal, plating type and thickness, and anti-tarnish coating.
- Stone type and grade, and setting method.
- Target weight and size for each piece.
- Quantity per design, packing standard and the Incoterm.
- The safety rules the goods must meet in your market.
Ask for a quote broken down the same way
- Unit price per design, and whether it is per piece, per dozen or per set.
- MOQ per design and per colour.
- Sample cost and sample lead time.
- Mould or die cost for new designs, and who owns the mould.
- Production lead time from sample approval.
- Packing, testing and inland freight: included or extra.
- Payment terms and how long the price is valid, given that metal prices move.
Compare like for like
Put every quote into one table, with one row per design and the same units. Convert per-dozen and per-set prices into per-piece prices, and add any extras so you compare the full cost to the same delivery point.
Then compare the samples, not just the numbers. Weigh pieces from each maker, look at the plating on edges and clasps, and check the stone setting. A slightly higher price for a heavier, better-plated piece usually costs less once returns are counted.
Look beyond price
Score each maker on the things that cause trouble later: whether it plates in-house, how quickly and clearly it replies, whether it can supply test reports, and how its lead time fits your season. If one quote is far below the others, ask what is different before you assume it is a bargain.
What this means for a buyer
A fair comparison starts with one specification and ends with samples side by side. Creston & Co works for buyers only, for a fixed fee agreed in writing: we collect comparable quotes, visit the workshops, check plating and finish on the samples and have them tested at NABL-accredited labs.
