The price of a PP woven bag is set mainly by how much polypropylene it contains, which comes from the fabric weight, the bag size and any laminate or liner. Printing, stitching style, colour and order volume come next. A real quote needs a written specification, and we do not publish prices here.
Buyers often compare bags by size alone. Two bags of the same dimensions can differ by a third in weight, and the heavier bag will carry more, last longer and cost more.
Resin and fabric weight
Polypropylene resin is the raw material, and its market price moves with oil and petrochemical markets. This is why mills quote for a short period and why a quote from three months ago is not a basis for today's order.
The second driver is grams per square metre. Standard sacks are woven from tape of a set width and denier, with a set number of tapes per inch each way. Raise any of these and the bag weighs more. PP woven sack sizes for 25 kg and 50 kg shows the usual ranges.
Size, coating and liners
Bag size sets the area of fabric. Length, width and whether the bag has a gusset are all part of the quote.
Coating is the next layer. A laminated bag has a thin layer of film on the fabric that blocks moisture and dust, and it adds weight and a processing step. A loose polyethylene liner inside the bag has a similar effect and is priced separately. FIBC liner bags and when you need them explains the difference for large bags.
UV stabilisation also adds cost. If bags will sit outdoors, ask for it in writing, with the hours of UV resistance the mill claims.
Printing and colour
A plain white or natural bag is the cheapest. Each colour of print adds a plate or screen and a pass through the printer. Full-colour printing, or printing on a laminated surface, costs more again. The set-up cost is spread across the order, so a short run carries a higher unit cost.
Order volume and packing
Bags are cheap to make and expensive to move, because they are bulky. How they are packed, in bales of a set number, affects how many fit in a container. A 40ft container holds many more compressed, baled bags than loose ones. Freight cost per bag depends on this, as does the destination. The cost of jumbo bags follows the same logic and is covered in what drives the cost of jumbo bags.
How to get a comparable quote
Send every mill the same specification. It should list these items:
- Finished bag size in millimetres, with the tolerance you accept.
- Fabric weight in grams per bag or per square metre, and the tape count.
- Laminated or unlaminated, liner or none, and UV treatment.
- Colour, print positions, number of print colours and artwork file.
- Stitching and closure type, and the weight of cargo the bag must carry.
- Quantity, packing method, Incoterm and destination port.
Next step
Once the specifications match, the differences between quotes become meaningful. We write the specification with you, collect quotes from audited manufacturers and have the bags checked before shipment. Book a free sourcing review to start.
