Morbi tiles manufacturers list: how to build a shortlist

A published list of Morbi tile manufacturers or an association directory is a starting point, not a shortlist. Here is how to narrow it by product, capacity and export record.

A Morbi tiles manufacturers list is easy to find, and almost useless on its own. Directories, trade fair catalogues and the Morbi ceramic association's member contacts tell you who exists. They do not tell you who makes your product, at your quality, in your volume.

The same applies if you search for Gujarat tiles manufacturers more widely. Treat any list as raw material, then filter it with a method you can repeat.

Why is a published list a poor tool?

Lists are often out of date, mix factories with traders, and give no information on capacity. The cluster has many hundreds of units, as explained in how many tile factories there are in Morbi, so a long list gives you volume of choice but no help in choosing.

Every entry also looks equally credible on paper. A trading office and a plant with its own presses can share the same brochure language. Read how to find a genuine tile manufacturer in Morbi before you spend time on outreach.

How do you narrow the list by product?

Start with the product, because Morbi plants specialise. Some make wall tiles, some make glazed vitrified floor tiles, some focus on large slabs or thick outdoor tiles. A plant that excels in one category is often a poor choice for another.

Write down the body type, size, finish and number of designs you need, then remove every entry that does not make it. This usually cuts a long list to a small group quickly, before any contact is made.

How do you check capacity and export record?

Once the list is short, ask each plant for the same set of facts. Using the same questions makes the answers comparable:

  • Which tile types and sizes the plant presses itself, and which it buys in or outsources.
  • The number of presses and kilns, and how many shifts run on a normal month.
  • The markets it has shipped to in the past year, and whether it can share export documents for one of them.
  • The sorting and grading process, and who signs off a shipment.
  • The certificates and test reports it holds, with dates.

What turns a list into a shortlist?

A shortlist exists when each name has been verified, not just collected. That means reading the capacity claims against what the plant can show, which is covered in how to check a tile factory's real production capacity. It also means seeing samples from production, not from a showroom drawer.

Keep the final group small enough that you can compare quotes properly. Three to five verified plants is more useful than twenty names you have not tested.

What about association contacts and fairs?

The Morbi ceramic association and trade fairs are fair places to meet people, but membership is not an audit. A member can be a plant, a trader or a service business. Use these contacts to learn who is active, then apply the same filters to every name.

A visit adds the most information. Seeing the presses, kilns and sorting hall tells you in an hour what a brochure cannot, and our guide to visiting Morbi tile factories lists what to check on the day.
