What generator sets (gensets) are made in Gujarat?

Gujarat makers build small portable sets on air-cooled engines and larger silent and open gensets that pair Indian diesel engines with locally sourced alternators and controls.

Gujarat makes a wide range of diesel generator sets, from small portable units to larger industrial sets. Most are assembled by genset builders who combine an engine, an alternator, a control panel and an enclosure on a common base frame.

Few genset builders make every part themselves. Knowing who makes what is the key to judging quality.

Main types you will find

  • Small portable sets on air-cooled engines, often open frame, for homes, shops and site work.
  • Single- and three-phase sets on small water-cooled engines for farms and small businesses.
  • Silent or canopy sets with acoustic enclosures, which are the normal format in the Indian market.
  • Open sets for installation inside a plant room, where the room provides the sound and weather protection.
  • Larger industrial sets built on multi-cylinder engines bought from major Indian engine makers.

Formats and who makes what

Power bands are covered in genset kVA ranges, and the enclosure choice in silent versus open gensets. Builders also offer trailer-mounted sets, sets with larger base tanks for long running, and sets with automatic mains failure panels for standby use.

Small engines may come from Rajkot. Larger multi-cylinder engines usually come from big engine plants elsewhere in India. Alternators and control panels come from specialist makers or are built in-house. The genset builder then designs the base frame, fuel tank, canopy, exhaust and wiring, and tests the finished set.

This means the builder's real skill lies in integration and testing. Ask to see the load test bay, the canopy fabrication line and the wiring area. A builder that tests every set under load is a different business from one that only runs sets on no load.

Points that matter for export

  • Emissions: gensets built for India must meet CPCB IV+ limits, but that does not make them compliant in your market.
  • Frequency: Indian sets run at 50 Hz, so a 60 Hz market needs an engine and alternator set up for 1,800 rpm.
  • Electrical standards: control panels and wiring must suit your market's rules and plug types.
  • Documentation: you need a test report, wiring diagram, manuals and a parts list for each set.

The best single check

A witnessed load test is the best single check before shipment. It shows whether the engine, alternator and controls work together at full rating, and whether the canopy keeps the set cool. See what a genset load test is.

Check the parts list at the same time. The engine and alternator models on the nameplate should match the quote and the test sheet. Builders sometimes swap in a different alternator or controller when stock runs short, and a swap can change how the set performs.

What is a load test for a genset?

A load test runs the genset against a load bank at stepped loads, recording voltage, frequency, temperatures and transient response to prove it delivers its rating.
