How to find a reliable casting manufacturer in India

To find a reliable casting manufacturer in India, match the foundry to your process, grade and weight, audit it, and prove it with a sample and test records. Searching for a casting manufacturer or casting supplier in India gives many names, so selection is the main task.

Foundries in Rajkot and Ahmedabad make grey iron, SG iron and steel castings by sand, shell and investment processes. Few do all well.

Step 1: define the part

Write the grade in a standard, the weight, the annual quantity, the tolerance class, the machining and the testing. Casting grades explained helps with naming. Vague requests give vague quotes and attract traders.

Step 2: match the foundry

Foundries in Rajkot and Ahmedabad describes the types. A foundry that pours small grey iron pump parts is not necessarily right for a large SG iron housing. Ask for parts of a similar weight and process in production now.

Check the equipment: melting furnaces, a spectrometer for chemistry, a sand laboratory, heat treatment and a machine shop if you need finished parts.

Step 3: audit it

A site visit or audit should confirm these points:

  • Melting is controlled, with chemistry checked before each pour.
  • Patterns and moulds are stored and maintained, and ownership is documented.
  • Test equipment is calibrated, and records exist for the last several months.
  • Non-conforming castings are scrapped or marked, not mixed back in.

Step 4: prove it with samples and records

How to audit an engineering factory sets out the audit method. Approve a first sample with dimensions, chemistry, mechanical tests and any non-destructive tests. Keep the sample as a master for later lots.

Common complaints from casting buyers lists the usual faults, including porosity, dimensional drift and mixed grades. Ask each foundry how it prevents them.

How do you keep quality after the first lot?

Tie each lot to a heat number and a certificate, and inspect before loading. Cost depends on weight, grade, process, tooling, yield and machining, so a real quote needs a drawing.

What does a bad answer look like?

Be careful when a foundry says it can make any grade, any weight and any process, with no questions. Real foundries have limits and will tell you where they are.

Be careful too of a foundry that cannot show the last chemistry report, or that sends a certificate with no heat number. Without traceability, you cannot prove what was poured into your part.

Ask what the yield and scrap rate are on a part like yours. A foundry that can discuss scrap openly usually has the data to control it. Developing a new casting shows how a sample timeline should look.

Keep two or three foundries qualified, not one. Even a strong foundry has bad weeks, and a second source on the same pattern gives you leverage and continuity. Tooling ownership should be written down so that you can move the pattern if you need to.
